Recommended router for use with NDI HX Camera on Android phone

by Adriano Paixão - Number of replies: 1

Hello! I'm from Brazil and recently purchased the NDI HX Camera for my live church broadcasts. I use my own setup, but when it comes to internet, I feel like I need to change the router and cables I use because I can't get the most out of my phone with the app when using it on my PC through OBS Studio.

I'd like to know if there are any requirements or recommendations for equipment I should have to use the app, allowing me to use it at its highest quality and reduce delay without losing quality.

I currently use my PC with a gigabit port, gigabit cables, an Intelbras W6-1500 router, and my cell phone is a Samsung Galaxy S24 FE.

I'd be very grateful to anyone who can help me with this. I'm a beginner in this field, but I intend to learn and improve a lot.

If you are running wired gigabit on the OBS side, that is good. As for the WiFi, you want the best that can be handled between the phone and router. Have as few other devices using WiFi as possible and make sure you are using wireless spectrum that isn't being used by another access point nearby, as that can cause interruptions.

You don't mention how much delay you are seeing, but with NDI-HX there will always be a little bit which is unavoidable because of the Long GOP compression. Test using NDI Studio Monitor (just to make sure OBS isn't adding additional latency). I did a quick test on my iPhone into NDI Studio Monitor and I'm seeing around 250 milliseconds of delay. (About a quarter second). I'm not sure what is the theoretical lowest you can get, but I'm guessing probably not that much lower than a quarter second.
