NDI + Internet on Single-NIC Laptops Config Advice Needed

by Justin Craig - Number of replies: 1

Hi, I am looking for some guidance on making sure my NDI configuration is set up properly. I have three laptops running NDI screen capture at 60fps. Each laptop is connected to a Netgear AV M4300 multi gig switch set to the default NDI profile on VLAN1.

2.5gbs internet also going into the switch on the same VLAN so those laptops can receive internet, though those laptop NICs are 1Gbe.

I have desktop pc with a 10Gbe NIC running vMix and bringing in those NDI feeds from the laptops and also streaming out on the same VLAN in order to get internet.

I have been getting frame drops and occasional stutter from the NDI feeds from the laptops. Is there a better configuration I am unaware of that can separate the internet traffic from the NDI traffic even though the laptops only have a single ethernet port?

Just to verify, are these laptops connecting to any other network via WiFi?

Is NDI Screen Capture the only tool you have tested? To determine frame drops, I'd use a better testing tool like NDI Signal Generator, which will output a continuous signal (NDI Screen Capture only outputs frame when there are update on the screen). https://kanelp7.wixsite.com/kanesworld/ndi-signal-generator

Also, a good test is to record the NDI signal unit NDI Studio Monitor and then look at the recording. There have been times where I see a frame drop, but what it really going on is the display of the frame on the screen. When I look at the recording, I can see that all of the frames did arrive.
