NDI HX support on MacOS

NDI HX support on MacOS

by Paul van Brouwershaven - Number of replies: 7

The NDI Tools for macOS do not appear to support NDI HX, at least not on the Mac mini with the M4 chip. Is there any plan to add support for this in the future?

It would also be fantastic if Screen Capture HX (with KVM control) could be made available for macOS.

Additionally, the tools seem to run smoother on Windows than they do on macOS. Are there optimizations for macOS in the pipeline to address this performance gap?

Because of recent changes made within macOS in regard to the signing of libraries, if you wish NDI HX version 1 to work within your applications, you should locate the options in XCode under “Targets->Signing & Capabilities” and ensure that the option “Hardened Runtime -> Disable Library Validation” is checked.

I think this is something that the developer needs to do.

Thank you for your suggestion!

To clarify, I’m referring to the official NDI Tools available at: https://ndi.video/tools/.

As we are not the developers of these tools, this is not something we can directly address. On Windows, there are tools like “Screen Capture” and “Screen Capture HX,” but on macOS, there’s only “Scan Converter,” which appears to be significantly more limited and lacks an HX equivalent.

I thought you were referencing the NDI-HX v1 Driver.

There is a HX Screen Capture tool for Windows, but not one on Mac. I'm not sure what the plans are in that regard, the vast majority of NDI software applications output High Bandwidth NDI, HX is most commonly used with hardware devices.

Thanks for sharing the link to the documentation, although this doesn’t answer my questions about NDI HX or the performance issues compared to the Windows NDI tools.

Hi Paul, can you list any remaining questions you have? I will ask around and see if I can't get them answered for you smile

HX works great on MacOS. It does no longer require a separate install but is included when you install NDI 6 Tools. However, if your account does not have admin privileges, it will not be able to use the HX "driver" and thus the sources will not appear.
