Rough playback NDI Input/Output VST plugin

Rough playback NDI Input/Output VST plugin

Hi there I am new to this group. NDI tools is very promising, I hope I can get it working.

I have a PC and a laptop connected to the same gigabit Access Point atm with wired connections. I also tried this directly to a gigbit switch and have the exact same outcome. Both devices confirm Gigabit connection speed.
Both machines have dynamic ip assigned.
The AP is connected to a switch which is connected to the main Router that does the DHCP and internet.

I am running a VST host (Cubase 14) on the laptop with the NDI Input VST plugin and NDI Monitor.
I have NDI Output VST and NDI Screen Capture on the Studio computer running a Cubase project (i9 Desktop)

My aim is to use the laptop as a remote to work on projects that are running on the Studio i9 desktop.

There is only 2 tracks comming from the Studio Computer to the laptop. I tried with Audio only (without Capture and Monitor) and it's the same - stuttery glitchy with dropouts. I have made sure that it is not clipping and have plenty of headroom.

Also on the Capture/Monitor side there is a noticable latency in mouse movement. I have used DroidCam in the past and  from memory there was no noticable latency in the video, granted it was from a phone to PC

Is there some basic network settings I have missed?

Do these devices have both WiFi and Ethernet (it sounds like you tried both ways)? Make sure you turn off the WiFi interface when connected via wired Ethernet, NDI will try to take advantage of multiple interfaces and if both wireless and wired are active, some traffic can be using wireless connection.

NDI-KVM is high performance. I use it all the time for remote control of systems and the amount of lag should not be noticeable.

For the NDI VST plug-in, if you are still having drops/pops/clicks (after getting the above working correctly),check the latency/buffer size in the DAW application, it might set to too low.

Thanks for your reply,
I have them wired and all wifi is turned off. The project runs perfectly with no buffer underruns, I have also tried this with very simple projects with no processing at all and I still have the issue on the other end.
I will try to increase the buffer on the laptop, I doubt it will make a difference as I can do a fair bit more processing than one plugin on it.

To clarify, on the recieving laptop, I have Cubase running with the only plugin being the NDI input for the sole purpose of hearing the stereo mix, 2 channels from the desktop.

I'd expect to be able to do one 1080@30fps Capture and 2 tracks of audio on a 10/100 network, so I'm guessing gigabit has more than enough bandwith.

I will do the training course, that I just discovered,  just to make sure I'm not missing something and earn a badge.
