NDI Discovery is not available from NDI Tools

NDI Discovery is not available from NDI Tools

Caveat: Very new to NDI, currently struggling through how to even view an NDI stream on my local network

Windows 10 Pro (being used as a sender)
NDI Tools 6.1.1.0

Streaming to iPad / iPhone / Windows laptop

I have installed NDI Tools on my Windows machine.

On this machine, I can use Studio Monitor to see a colour bars output. I can view a NDI OBS output (using a NDI plugin for OBS)

On my Windows laptop, I installed NDI Tools, and using Studio monitor I can see the NDI output from OBS immediately.

I cannot see the server machine stream in ANY of the iOS devices, with any NDI viewing apps I can find. (Does anyone know of any iOS app that is known to work to receive an NDI stream, assuming the network, sender etc are all working?)

Looking around, it appears that NDI Discovery would be helpful. All the docs on the NDI.video website indicate that it should be accessible in the NDI Tools interface.

https://docs.ndi.video/all/using-ndi/ndi-tools/ndi-tools-for-windows/discovery-server

However, it is simply not in the NDI Tools interface.

How can I access the NDI Discovery Server? Or do I just need a working iOS app for viewing NDI streams?

Thanks

Are the Windows laptops connected via wired Ethernet, while the iOS devices are WiFi? If so, the issue might be that your wired and wireless networks are separate subnets, which is why devices aren't able to see each other. Once way to tell if this is the case, is to get the IP and Netmask values for the systems.

NDI Discovery Server is included with Windows NDI Tools, but it isn't available from the launcher interface. If you want to access it, you will need to manually navigate into the folder "C:\Program Files\NDI\NDI 6 Tools\Discovery" and run the program you find there.

However, if your wired/wireless networks are separate subnets, with no routing setup between them, then Discovery Server isn't going to solve the problem. You need to get that resolved first.

Another thing to check on your Windows systems. Make sure the network type is 'Private' (not 'Public'). This can be found by right clicking on your network icon in the tray and opening 'Network and Internet settings'. The network type will be displayed at the top of the Window. If you network is set Public, it will often block the NDI communication.

The Windows laptop is on wireless, the same as the iOS devices. The laptop can easily see the NDI stream.

The network type on Windows is Private.

Is there an iOS NDI receiver that is known to work to view an NDI stream?

Hi Norman,

This was a mistake in the documentation. As of now Discovery Server is only available as a command line tool.

Apologies for the confusion
